Welcome to my Web Site for Newbies:
I've tried to keep it clean, tidy, and most of all simple. I hope you like it, and find something to interest you here.
I'm going to assume that you're a compete novice to the internet, so if it all sounds a bit too simple and lame to you, just go somewhere else.
I've been about on the internet now for a long time, but I've never had any profesional training, So like you and most people, I'm still learning as I go along, I just wish I'd found a site like this when I started out.
There's lots of hyperlinks on these pages that will take you to other sites, BUT read this page first as it gives a lot of good advice for the novice.
We all have to start somewhere, and with this website I hope to steer you clear of some of the dangers and pitfalls of surfing the internet.
So Lets Get Started........................A Quick description on what is software...
Generally speaking there's three types of software: Shareware, Freeware, and adware/Spyware/scumware
Shareware
Is software that is distributed free on a trial basis with the understanding that the user may need or want to pay for it later.
Most software developers offer a shareware version of their program with a built-in expiration date
(for example: after 30 days, the user can no longer get access to the program).
Other shareware (sometimes called liteware) is offered with certain capabilities disabled as an enticement to buy the complete version of it.
Shareware is also commonly referred to as "Try before you buy"
Freeware
Is programming that is offered at no cost. However, it is copyrighted so that you can't incorporate its programming into anything you may be developing.
Also, while free for personal use, you need to check the license agreement for details for commercial use, since this may not always be free. It may also contain "Third Party" software for example, Toolbars, or adware.
Adware/Spyware/Scumware
Is software which is usually installed with or without your consent or knowledge by including it inside a legitimate piece of software, usually it's just the likes of advertising, or tracking cookies, but sometimes there's even nastier stuff...
Like browser hi-hackers, porn dialers, Trojan's, viruses, rootkits etc......(not nice)
Safety on the Internet.......
You NEED at the very least...
1/ A good anti virus program
2/ A good popup stopper
3/ A good configurable firewall
4/ A good adware / spyware remover
5/ FIREFOX, A much better browser than Internet explorer
Firefox
Latest Firefox features include tabbed browsing, spell checking, incremental find, live bookmarking, a download manager, private browsing, location-aware browsing (also known as "geolocation") based exclusively on a Google service and an integrated search system that uses Google by default in most localizations.
Functions can be added through add-ons, created by third-party developers, of which there is a wide selection (more than 6,000 at the last count).
Firefox can be downloaded here.
All the websites/programs on this site have a FAQ/Help section, and I'd advise you all to read them,
so as to have a better understanding of how the programs works.
The above programs are my own personal choices, but there's lots of others that do the same thing, so if your not happy with any of these programs......Just go find yourself another one....
If you find one your REALLY happy with, why don't you buy it, I'm sure the software developer will thank you for it and they will continue to update and develop it further.
